Site Engineer – Buildings Division – based in the Western Cape

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Updating the Site Diary;
  • Capturing Weekly Site Progress Pictures;
  • Updating Quality Assurance Checklists;
  • Record Contra charges of Subcontractor;
  • Construction Drawings Administration and update;
  • Checking Technical Designs and Drawings to ensure that they are followed correctly;
  • Managing and updating of Sectional Work of the construction Projects;
  • Monitoring Production outputs of sectional work of the construction projects;
  • Providing technical advice and solutions;
  • Recording Near Miss Records;
  • Reporting Non-Conformances of Subcontractors or employees;
  • Attending and Participating in SHE Committee Meetings;
  • Conducting Daily Safety Task Instructions.

APPLICABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A relevant Btech/ Diploma in Construction Management/Civil Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Site Engineer in a medium to large sized Construction company;
  • Good working knowledge of contract conditions and regulations, design management, programme, risk management and cost control including forecasting, actual cost and value reporting;
  • Excellent IT skills and working knowledge of relevant software (Microsoft suite, CCS and Build Smart);
  • Effective report writing skills, planning and organizational skills; and
  • Must have a solution focused mind set, be accountable, proactive and responsible.
  • Basic knowledge of the various applicable forms of contracts eg. JBCC, FIDIC, NEC3 etc

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop the commercial strategy and direction for the division;
  • Provide assistance, support and guidance on all commercial issues within the division;
  • Develop and expand the commercial knowledge within the division;

  • Recommend participation or dismissal of potential tenders based on risk assessment, potential profitability and capacity of the unit;

APPLICABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • BSc Quantity Surveying (QS) as a minimum;
  • Professional Registration (SACQSP or SACPCMP);
  • At least 8 years’ experience in a similar position with business strategy, contract management, commercial and legal management; operational planning and implementation exposure;
  • Expert working knowledge of the various Construction contract conditions;
  • Excellent IT skills and working knowledge of relevant software (Microsoft, CCS (must use CCS for tendering);
  • Must be highly competent in evaluating commercial and contractual risks in a tender document; and
  • Must be self-managed and able to comply with tight deadlines.

FREE TRAINING OPPORTUNITY FOR EMPLOYED STAFF ON FULL QUALIFICATION NATIONAL CERTIFICATE: COMMUNITY HOUSE BUILDING – GAUTENG BASED ONLY EMPLOYEES

Motheo Academy is looking for construction companies that are willing to train their site employees and sub-contractor employees on a learnership programme for 12 months. The qualification name is National Certificate: Community House Building NQF 2, SAQA ID 24273.

The Motheo Academy has been awarded a project to train and develop 25 employed candidates within the built environment industry for the qualification National Certificate: Community House Building NQF 2, SAQA ID 24273.

The training will be for a period of 25 days. This will be free of charge and NO STIPEND will be payable to individuals that will undergo the training. Motheo and the chosen companies will package the 25 days training to ensure site production is not affected.

This programme is targeted at employees in the construction sector who are currently:

  • Site Foreman
  • Self-employed within construction sector
  • Painters, tilers, plasterers, masons, joiners, carpenters, roofers

Skills Outcome:

  • Apply energy efficient environmental principles that result in the construction of buildings that are environmentally sound and which promote the sustainability of the surrounding environment.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the construction industry, stakeholders, relevant regulations, legislation and skills development initiatives.
  • Prepare basic sketches and drawings as well as read and interpret basic construction drawings and specifications.
  • Apply health and safety legislation when carrying out the range of activities associated with the building of community houses.
  • Render basic first aid when minor injuries are sustained to self or personnel engaged in building activities on the site.
  • Set out, brace and erect site made roof trusses and including prefabricated roof trusses where these have been specified.
  • Apply screeds to concrete floors.
  • Measure, cut and fit glass into wood and steel frames in accordance with specified dimensions.
  • Prepare, prime and paint internal and external surfaces.
  • Erect, use and dismantle basic access equipment.
  • Set out, excavate and cast concrete strip foundations and build foundation walling onto which a concrete slab is cast.
  • Set out and prepare carpentry work areas for the limited range of carpentry practices carried out during the construction of houses of a basic design.
  • Use brick size and block size units to build walls, including the building of bricks into pre-erected light steel framed walls.
  • Demonstrate competent performance in the following outcomes within the defined context of this qualification.
  • Demonstrate competent performance against the criteria contained in the Fundamental unit standards selected for the Numeracy and Literacy competencies that are required of multi-skilled practitioners in the construction industry.

After successful completion of this programme, competent learners will receive the Motheo Academy Certificate of Attendance. The competent learners will also receive the Construction Education & Training Authority (CETA), SAQA Accredited certificate in NC: Community House Building NQF 2 which will add value towards their career development.

SHORT SKILLS TRAINING OPPORTUNITY!!!

The Motheo Academy is offering an opportunity for unemployed people to study towards a 3-month Short Skills Community House Building programme.

The requirements to successfully qualify for this opportunity are listed below:

  1. A Grade 9 school qualification
  2. Two CLEAR uncertified copies of your ID
  3. Detailed CV
  4. You must be 35 or under
  5. Candidates must be South African citizens
  6. Candidates must live in the Gauteng region
  7. Once documentation is received by Motheo, then screening will commence.
  8. After screening candidates will be called in for an interview, after the interview the final decision is made.
  9. Final decisions will be taken by the Motheo Academy, and applicants will be notified of the decision taken.
